Where we work

The beaches, block by block

Jacksonville Beach and its neighbours, within about 25 miles. Each page is written around what that particular place does to a refrigerator.

A coastal kitchen island in granite with a deep sink and a mixer tap, a technician’s tool bag and a cordless drill set down on the worktop, and a stainless refrigerator standing beyond the doorway.
Where we work, block by block

These are not the same page with the place name swapped. Distance to the ocean sets how fast a condenser loads; the age of the housing stock sets whether a cabinet ever had the clearance it was designed for; and the lot itself sets how long it takes to get a technician and a hand truck to the kitchen. Those three things differ across four miles of barrier island, and the pages differ with them.

Exposure scale

Approximate straight-line distance to the Atlantic. Every area page carries its own reading and its own cleaning interval.

What actually differs from block to block

Exposure. Within half a mile of the dune line, chloride lands on a condenser daily and binds household lint into a mat that a vacuum rides over. A mile back, the coil collects ordinary dust and the damage moves to hardware instead — fastener heads, hinge pins, fan shrouds — driven by air that never dries rather than by deposit. Those two failure patterns want different cleaning intervals and a different half of the visit spent on them.

Housing stock. A 1950s cottage kitchen was not built around a 48-inch built-in, so when one goes in, the clearance around the grille is the first thing trimmed to make it fit. A house finished last year usually has the opening right and the joinery tight instead, which moves the problem to panel weight, hinge geometry and door closure. The first case is a compartment that cannot exhaust; the second is a cabinet sealing on three sides of four.

Access. Oceanfront condominium units mean service lifts, loading windows and metered parking. Canal and creek lots mean long driveways and raised living levels. A built-in cabinet is heavy, awkward and usually has to come out on its rails before anyone can reach the back of it, so access decides whether a job is one visit or two — which is why we ask about it on the phone rather than on the doorstep.

Booking

Tell us what the cabinet is doing.

A written finding, a written estimate before any part is ordered, and an independent shop that services Sub-Zero refrigeration and nothing else.
